Disclaimer/Claimer: I do not own nor am I affiliated with Jericho or CBS or any of the other PTB in relation to the show (although if anybody has a Major Beck just kickin' around with nothing to do...send him my way!). No infringement is intended. I'm just taking the characters out to play, and will do my best to show them a very, VERY good time. ;)

A/N1: Words in red are Beck's thoughts as he's writing; not what was actually sent.

A/N2:  Once again, everything I know about the military I've learned from MASH and movies.  I apologize for any errors in advance.  :)

Heather -

I'm glad to hear Jericho has remained relatively peaceful, except for the odd skirmish with the ASA or a random attack from Constantino and his forces.

As for us, we're on the move again. We've finally broken the stalemate and have been steadily pushing the ASA forces back towards Santa Fé for the last few days. I've attempted several times to meet with the field commander of the enemy troops under a flag of truce, but so far, no luck. He's an old colleague; I would like to try and sway him to our side, if possible. I'd like to show him the evidence and give him the opportunity to switch sides. At the very least, I want to give him and his troops the opportunity to make a choice about which side they're on, and why. They don't have the advantage of a Hawkins and a Jake gathering intel, or of a Heather forcing them to face the truth, even if they didn't want to.

There's still a steady trickle of refugees coming into our camp. Now that we're on the move again, though, we've been keeping more of them with us until we can spare the troops to take them away from the front. Some of them have been proving to be extremely helpful to us in camp, and we give those people the option of staying with us if they choose.

Ronnie has proven to be invaluable when it comes to the refugees, and I've learned to trust her judgement when it comes to which refugees to send to the back and who would be best kept with us here at the front, both in support roles in the camp and also those who wish to join our ranks.

People with children, though, are moved away from the front lines as soon as possible. Children simply should not be here. Moving the families is where Ronnie and her clan have really proven their worth; we use them as armed escorts when we can't spare the troops. I haven't had Ronnie and her people with us for long, but I'm not sure what we'd do without them now.

We're making steady, even if slow, progress. If I can arrange a meeting with Major Rodriguez and convince him to join our cause, it will help quickly shift the balance of power here in New Mexico. It may not win the War, but it will certainly win this battle.

That’s the problem with a civil war. It has friends and family fighting each other. Of course, that also presents the opportunity to try and influence “changes of allegiance” as you portray here.

Nice recognition of Heather (as well as Jake and Hawkins). I could imagine Heather smiling as she reads this sentence.
