 Jeff -

I should have known Jake wouldn't let it go. How Eric stops himself from wiping that mocking grin off Jake's face every day and at every opportunity is a mystery to me.

During our meeting today, Jake couldn't resist teasing me again about my feelings for Heather and giving me more and more outlandish suggestions on ways for me to – as he puts it - “lure Heather into my clutches”. I'm glad I'm providing him with so much entertainment.

Once the teasing was done, though, we shared what little news we had from Hawkins – rather, what news Jake had received about Hawkins from Darcy. Nothing specific, only that he's alive and tracking a lead on some J&R employees who may have survived the Second Attacks. Which means he's probably not tracking down the mail clerk.

The life of a black ops agent.

Not nearly as romantic as the movies would lead you to believe.

No ETA on when he might return, but I was expecting that – and my respect for Darcy just continues to grow every time we interact. It takes a strong woman to stay behind and not lose hope, even after weeks – months – of no word.

In the meantime, I'm heading to Patterson tomorrow for two weeks, then on to Rogue River for another two weeks with a trip or two to the refugee camp somewhere in there as well. Winter's coming and we need to make sure Jericho Territory will be able to survive. With the steady stream of refugees putting increasing pressure on our supplies, we need to once again aggressively pursue more trading partners. My captains are putting teams together and sending them out into the frontier this week.

I'll go out again after the trips to Patterson and Rogue River. But I've been away from Patterson for too long and I'm looking forward to seeing Lucy, Bobby and Del again.
